Where do you go when you need a break from the world, when you need to recover after a stressful day or a long week of work when you just want to clear your mind, your thoughts and to feel recharged again?
Maybe is on your porch, in your back yard or maybe you are driving somewhere, walking on the beach or in the park. I am sure we all have that place, where we can escape from time to time from our busy life and be with ourselves in silence for a while.
Back then…
I grew up in a small mountain village and since I was a child I have always had my hiding places where I would go. I called them my meditation spots, even though I didn’t maditate back then when I was only 12 years old.
I just remember that I would always go in the forest behind the house and sit there under a pine tree. It was my favorite thing to do after school.
It was my hiding place where I was studying, reading, journaling or just sitting there alone and watch the sky. There were no phones back then, no social media, not too many distractions.
Life was simple and every moment was meaningful and lived in the present.
Now…
15 years later life brought me by the ocean. No more pine trees, but there is the ocean now.
I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, by the Atlantic Coast for over 10 years and going on the beach very early in the morning and witness sunrise is just a one of my morning routines at least once a week.
The ocean it’s the place where I go for empowering myself before or after a long day of work. Sitting on the beach early in the morning it became a form of therapy. It’s a space for reflection, for clarity, for returning to myself.
The ocean became my hiding spot when I need to escape from the world. I choose not to bring my phone with me, just a book and a beach chair. I sit in silence. I make it a meaningful moment.
Connecting with the ocean it heals me. It helps me to find balance and gain positive thinking. It helps me to recharge with good energy and to feel ready for any future challenges that the day might bring.
I am such a fortunate person to live by the beach. I’ve seen hundreds of sunrises, and each one reminds me how significant this routine has become to my life.
What role does the beach and the ocean play in your healing?
I want to share with you below a few reasons why you should reach the ocean any time you can and remain in silence and stay true to yourself for a few moments of recovery.
There are two ways of healing you’ll achieve: emotional and physical.
Here are 15 emotional and physical ways the ocean can support your healing.
Emotional Healing
- Sparks positive thoughts
- Encourages happiness
- Fosters mindfulness
- Deepens self-awareness
- Supports meditation
- Clears emotional “toxins”
- Awakens inspiration
- Strengthens spiritual wellness
- Calms the mind with wave sounds
Physical Healing
10. Natural source of Vitamin D
11. Saltwater helps improve skin conditions
12. Sand offers natural exfoliation
13. Ocean air supports better breathing
14. Ideal environment for stretching or jogging
15. Perfect place for yoga and walking meditations
I recommend connecting with the ocean at sunrise or during twilight, when the light softens and your senses are wide open.
What to do while walking alone on the beach…
- Listen to the waves.
- Watch the sea foam kiss the shore.
- Feel the sand beneath your feet.
- Close your eyes.
- Let your thoughts drift without control.
- Listen to your inner voice.
- Be still — and don’t judge yourself.
Doing those practices often, you will notice a sense of calm and more clarity.
The Healing Power of Blue Color
Did you know the blue color itself can support healing?
Studies show that looking at the ocean or sky — even in photos or through a window — can have a calming effect on the nervous system.
Blue is often associated with sadness, but in the natural world, it symbolizes trust, inspiration, serenity, and stability. It reminds us that we’re part of something vast and beautiful.
Even when I’m away from the coast, I carry the ocean routine with me.
